چکیده

Diclofenac sodium (DS) is considered as priority anti-inflammatory pollutant because of its presence in water. In this paper, we addressed the issue of using organo-K10 montmorillonite as adsorbent of DS to reduce its negative effects on the environment. An organo-K10 montmorillonite (MK10-C16) was prepared by intercalating the organic cation cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (C16) in a K10 montmorillonite (MK10), and then characterized using XRD analytical technique. The organo-K10 montmorillonite displayed enhanced affinity for the DS in water. The results revealed that the rate of adsorption decreased with increase in temperature. The pseudo-secondorder model describes better the results of the kinetics. The adsorption data fitted well with Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity of diclofenac is estimated to be 63.33 mgg. The results revealed that MK10-C16 have a high potential to be used as adsorbent for the removal of DS from aqueous solution.

Thermal and chemical modification of bentonite for adsorption of an anionic dye

Raw bentonite (RB), a known low-cost versatile clay was used as an adsorbent. RB was treated thermally and chemically to increase its adsorption capacity. For thermal treatment (TTB), the bentonite was heated at 400 °C for 60 min, and for the chemical modification, its surface was treated by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) to prepare organo-modified bentonite (CTAB-B). The removal of Cong...

Mathematical modeling and optimization of sonication remediation of soil polluted with 2-methylpropane-2-thiol

Existence of 2-methylpropane-2-thiol as an organosulfur and odorant compound in the soil could causes environmental problem and social dissatisfaction. In this study, remediation of this type of thiol using ultrasound is investigated. Central Composite Design (CCD) based on Response Surface Model (RSM) was used to obtain effects of the main factor (Power, sonication time and amount of water) an...

Nanostructured Fe2O3/Al2O3 Adsorbent for removal of As (V) from water

The presence of arsenate in drinking water causes adverse health effects including skin lesions, diabetes, cancer, damage to the nervous system, and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, the removal of As (V) from water is necessary. In this work, nanostructured adsorbent Fe2O3/Al2O3 was synthesized via the sol-gel method and applied to remove arsenate from polluted waters. First, the Fe2O3 load ...

Iranian natural zeolite particle modification: Green synthesis, characterization, and oil spill remediation

In the present work, Iranian natural zeolite particles (NZ) as an abundant and low-cost resource were modified by chemical covalent attachments of commercially available stearic acid (SA) with tunable hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties. The versatile, simple, and green technique of mechanogriding was performed for the hydrophobic derivatisation of NZ. The NZ and as-prepared modified particles w...

Removal of cesium through adsorption from aqueous solutions: a systematic review

Cesium radioactive isotopes (134Cs and 137Cs) are dangerous to human health due to their long half-life and high solubility in water. Nuclear experiments, wars, and nuclear plant accidents have been the main sources of Cs release into the environment. In recent years, several methods have been introduced for the elimination of Cs radioactive isotopes from contaminated wate...
